London is a city that’s known for its architecture from the Gothic splendour of Westminster Abbey to the more formal Nash terraces of Regent’s Park, but until I started researching this post I hadn’t realised how many Art Deco buildings there were, the city is full of them. These are some of my personal favourites. Continue reading Mr Bell’s Art Deco London In Pictures

Mr Bell Visits Kensington Palace
Winter can be a great time to visit London, yes the weather can be very unpredictable but it’s less crowded and quite often there are some good offers on entrance fees, many half price. This is one of the reasons I’m at Kensington Palace today. Continue reading Mr Bell Visits Kensington Palace
Mr Bell At The Magical Lantern Festival: A Different Perspective
I’ve been trying to get tickets to visit the Chiswick House Magical Lantern Festival but I’ve not had much luck what with work commitments it seems that the times that I have off are the most popular to visit. With that in mind I decided to take a walk down there during the day to see what all the fuss was about. Continue reading Mr Bell At The Magical Lantern Festival: A Different Perspective
Mr Bell’s London: A Riverside Stroll From Hammersmith Bridge To Kew Bridge
The Hammersmith name was first recorded in 1294 and most likely comes from the Saxon words for hammer and smithy, a trade the area used to be associated with many years ago. Continue reading Mr Bell’s London: A Riverside Stroll From Hammersmith Bridge To Kew Bridge
Mr Bell’s London: Aldwych Disused Underground Station
The London Underground has always held a weird fascination for me and with it being the world’s first underground railway let me tell you there’s lots to be fascinated with. There’s disused stations, tunnels and lines all over the city many that have been closed for years. Recently I got to go on a guided tour of one of the most well known disused stations. Continue reading Mr Bell’s London: Westminster And Whitehall
Mr Bell’s Walk Around Soho
Officially the area known as Soho is contained within the boundaries of Oxford Street, Shaftesbury Avenue, Charing Cross Road and Regent Street. Chinatown, based along Gerrard Street south of Shaftesbury Avenue, is also considered by many to be part of Soho. The history of Soho goes back to the Middle Ages when the church owned the land, leasing it out as farmland. After the Dissolution the land came under the control of Henry VIII, he used the land for hunting which is where the area probably got its name, from the ancient hunting cry “so-ho!”. Mr Bell At Skate Somerset House
Somerset House is one of my favourite places to visit in London, it’s such a beautiful building and somewhere to get away from the crowds except that is when Skate arrives. Continue reading Mr Bell At Skate Somerset House
Mr Bell At Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland
Hyde Park is once again hosting its Winter Wonderland Christmas spectacular, and this year it seems is bigger than ever. Continue reading Mr Bell At Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland
Mr Bell And The Ghosts Of Hampstead
Ghostly highwaymen, a dead, interfering pub landlord and Bram Stoker’s Dracula are all chilling tales that form part of the history of Hampstead, a pretty little village perched on a hill in north London. There’s been a settlement here for over a thousand years, Londoners came here for the fresh air and to escape the filth and squalor of the city below. Continue reading Mr Bell And The Ghosts Of Hampstead
